The ministry is collaborating with the Central Bank of Sudan to ease financial restrictions and increase lending limits for small-scale projects. This is a crucial step in supporting families and attempting to revive the struggling economy.
But here's where it gets complicated: a report from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification revealed that 21.2 million people, representing 45% of Sudan's population, were experiencing severe food insecurity in September. Famine conditions were even reported in specific areas.
However, the government has disputed these findings, labeling the famine reports as 'exaggerated.' This difference in perspective highlights the challenges of accurately assessing the situation amidst the ongoing conflict.
The devastating conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which began in April 2023, is the root cause of this humanitarian crisis. The war has tragically claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions, pushing the country further into despair.
